[...] several patent dates attached or cast onto them, as follows:
First & Pryibil (Steere example) August 28, 1866 & Jan 7, 1873
First & Pryibil ('Woodshave' example) said to be 1876
Pryibil (Poore example) August 28, 1866 & Jan 7, 1873
Pryibil (Barnhart example) August 28, 1866 & Jan 7, 1873
Therefore three of the Pryibil examples date would seem to date 1873 or after at the earliest and one in 1876 or after at the earliest. It is not perfectly clear when these nine four footed cast iron saws with [...]

[...] (A-66) in place, but do not tighten them up yet. I also recommend dropping the cutterhead shaft (A-28) with the new bearings (A-26) installed into the babbit at this point, just to ensure that its spacing is correct as you get the elevation mechanism working. I did this at a later step and had to go back and re-adjust everything again to get the cutterhead to fit. Don’t worry about the cutterhead being parallel to the table at this point, you can adjust for that readily once the table will raise and lower smoothly through its whole range. Elevating Shaft

[...] Fig. 25. This machine is intended for a heavy class of work, and is shown in operation in Figs. 23, 28 and 30. Each one of the machines illustrated in this article is a good example of the particular type of machine, which it represents. No attempt has been made to show examples of all makes of machines, and in the final selection of the examples shown many good makes were omitted for want of space.
The types illustrated cover the entire field of American milling machine construction, using the term in its restricted sense, exclusive of those machines [...]

[...] feet in the older engines. The actual efficiency of the new engine is stated by Mr. Atkinson to be 28.26 per cent., as compared with 22 per cent, actual efficiency in those of the older type. It may here be stated that by actual efficiency is meant the ratio of the heat converted into work to the total heat developed by the combustion of the gas. When coal gas is used some 6 per cent, is required to be deducted to arrive at the net heat effect utilized from coal. The mechanical efficiency is the ratio of the effective or brake horse power to the indicated horse power. [...]
[...] always retained a liking for the youngster agreed to that. Egan worked with him 12 years until he was 28. Apropos of Mr. Steptoe's confidence in his protege comes the fact that on his deathbed, while making his will, he directed that Mr. Egan should be executor. Asked about the bond that should go with the appointment the old gentleman very emphatically remarked: "Thomas shall give no bond." It is unnecessary to relate that the duty was executed promptly and with exact fidelity. Within the first few weeks of Egan's work at that shop there came to him the misfortune of [...]
[...] consider is the safety valve or spring pop valve, a sectional cut of one type of which appears in Figure 28. It is made of brass throughout except the springs and the handle. The lower end G screws into the steam space in the boiler and admits steam to the lower side of the main valve A. Rod B rests on the top of this valve and is held down by means of the cap H and main spring S. In order for valve A to rise it must compress the spring S. A lock nut holds the top of this spring in place and if it is screwed down it puts more load on the spring and of course more load on [...]
