{rating} ===How to Rebuild a Scroll Saw Air Pump=== by Bob Vaughan{Reference:http://owwm.org/viewtopic.php?t=28127|http://owwm.org/viewtopic.php?t=28127} The air pump on most old Delta and Powermatic scroll saws generally needs a cleaning and rarely any new parts. Here's the sequence using a Powermatic 95, but the Delta saws are very similar. Here's the pump area looking up into the bottom air intake area. Remove the 4 screws holding on the pump housing. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair1.jpg] Here's the pump diaphragm and push block that works against a cam in the shaft. Inspect for wear. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair3.jpg] Remove the two end plugs. Be careful here as there are some very whispy light springs in there. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair4.jpg] Here's the diaphragm spring that keeps tension on the steel/leather diaphragm. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair5.jpg] A dental pick is being used to clean out all the grease and impacted sawdust around the valve seat. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair6.jpg] Here's the whole mess typical of 20 years of use. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair7.jpg] A diaphragm return spring that was pretty dirty [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair8.jpg] All better now. Cleaned flapper valve return springs, clean phenolic valves, and cleaned end caps. [image||{UP}ScrollSawAirPumpRebuild%2faSSair9.jpg] For re-installation, I'll run a couple pieces of all thread to hold the position of the shaft housing so all things can be aligned and assembled to the lower plunger shaft.
