Standard Planer & Parting Tools

Simply shaped, single-pointed tools are commonly standardized today in the larger and better organized shops. But even in these it is unusual to design carefully a complete line of the tools that are only occasionally used, but are very necessary when needed. An exception is the Watertown Arsenal. They have made detail drawings of both regular and special single-pointed tools, giving the setting angles for grinding in most cases. This work has been a part of the machine and tool standardization directed by Carl G. Barth while he was installing scientific management. From the drawings of these standard tools, I have selected those that are not commonly systematized in the shop and they are shown in the accompanying illustrations. Eighty tools are shown including round-nose planer tools, radius-forming tools, fillet-forming tools, external keyway tools and parting tools. In most cases the setting angles for grinding on Sellers and Taylor grinders are given. {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/01.jpg] ||       |} {br} {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/02.jpg] ||       |} {br} {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/03.jpg] ||       |} {br} {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/04.jpg] ||       |} {br} {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/05.jpg] ||       |} {br} {| style="margin: 0px auto;" border="0" |       || [imageauto||{UP}/Standard Planer and Parting Tools/06.jpg] ||       |} {br} L.
