Good day. Thank you for the excellent article about Rockwell-Delta in South Africa.
I am the proud custodian of a variety of Rockwell woodworking machines which were purchased by my late father-in-law, Ernst Marais, from Rockwell in Port Elizabeth, after the 1986 flood referred to in your article. That particular flood stands out in my memory from when I was a young boy, living with my parents in Port Elizabeth at the time.
Over the following weeks I will try to documented all these machines in the Vintage Machinery photo index. So far I have added a Beaver drill press (made in Canada) there.
My son and I have also acquired a few other Rockwell machines, including a 6" jointer made in South Africa (also in photo index). The name plate shows Port Elizabeth, RSA as the place of manufacture.
When I get the opportunity I will look up the Kempston Rd, Port Elizabeth address to see what remains of the buildings there and will add a photo here if possible.
Kind regards
