Typical single phase motor wiring
Typical single phase motor wiring diagrams including HI/Lo voltage, start and run capacitors (if used), start and run windings and centrifugal switches.
Single phase motors generally need a starter circuit to get them turning. That starter circuit is turned off by a centrifugal switch once the motor reaches a minimum RPM.
These diagrams are intended to represent the basics of how a single phase motor is wound. They may or may not apply to your particular motor, but should serve as a basis for troubleshooting and demystifying the wires available in the motors junction box. Special care should be taken with older motors that may not use the same lead identification as shown in the drawings.

If the motor is reversible, T5 & T8 need to be reversed to accomplish a change in rotation.
Start windings are across T5 & T8
Run windings are across T3 & T4 and T1 & T2
Start capacitors are in series with the start windings and switched in/out of circuit by the centrifugal switch.
Low volatge wiring places T1 & T2 in parallel with T3 & T4
High voltage wiring places T1 & T2 is series with T3 & T4
